Interlude

Hi all! It’s been a minute since I’ve posted, and I’ve got some updates.

Update one – I’m off the trail! Ended at donner ski ranch on day 79. Nothing bad’s happened, but I’m done with the trail for the year. I didn’t want to deal with the imminent fire closures of hundreds of miles of trail, and there was a good chance if I got close enough to Canada I would stubbornly stay on trail despite dangerously snowy conditions. I also had a great alternative – I’m headed to Asia for a month!

Maddy had already planned a monthlong trip as a vacation after taking the bar, and I made the call to join her about a week before she left. I’ll be going to Vietnam, Cambodia, and thailand with Maddy, then splitting off to Japan.

I’m still planning to finish the hiking blog of the days I haven’t posted yet – I’ve got notes, so it just comes down to fleshing them out and attaching some of the many pictures.

I’m also planning to blog the Asia trip! Sorry to those only interested in the PCT, feel free to unsubscribe/stop reading.

I’m actually typing this out from day four in Asia and (spoiler alert) it has been absolutely incredible. It was a tough call to end my pct hike, especially with the truly stellar views I had the last few days. But I feel like I accomplished quite a bit – 79 days, 1150 pct miles, probably 1200 all told. And I can always come back next year if I feel the yearning. And this next adventure promises to be equally special, if very different.

Preview pic from the top of an island in Ha Long Bay! And yes, I’ve brought the same shirt along. It may be faded, but it’s proved itself excellent against sun and bugs and evaporating sweat, all critical components here.
