18.5 today, setting up a 21 tomorrow. I started later than I meant to so did a lot of my hiking in the heat. It sure made it more difficult than it needed to be. But I had a nice moment when I got up on a ridge with a really interesting set of views. I could look backward towards the socal mountains that have been typical of my last few hundred miles or look ahead to the desert that stretched out before the next set of mountains.
Planning to do 21 tomorrow to get in short distance of hikertown, where I’ll post up for the day after a 7 mile morning. Then I’m going to night hike the LA aqueduct, not sure how far exactly but should be a fun change of pace! I’m especially excited with how full and bright the moon has been.
I also got a text today from one of my friends from my first week on the trail! There’s a little group of them that’s probably 80 miles ahead of me. I’ve taken more zero days and gone a little slower per day when hiking than they have, so it makes sense they’re pulling away. I doubt I’ll catch them just on making lots of miles every day, but there may be a section rendered impassable by fire or something up ahead that gives me cause to skip ahead. I did meet some more hikers the last couple days, which was nice since last week was really just me and one other guy wondering where everyone was!
