Day seven

Oops! Did a little more today than I intended. 18 miles and 2k vertical feet gain never felt so easy. I think it was because the grade was so slight I basically didn’t notice the increase, and I was limiting breaks in the first 14 miles to get to the first water source.

Speaking of which, this water source. It’s primarily the site of a water cache, which means that folks bring extra water to leave in that location since it’s so far between water sources. I say primarily, though, since there was also a cistern a little further down the trail. I can’t say I knew what to expect but I had to walk the extra half mile round trip to find out. Don’t think I’ve ever pulled water from a well before, and this one was bucket attached to rope just like they drew it up at the ren fair.

After chugging a liter and a half and lying in the shade for an hour, I moved on an extra for miles to a dry camp. It’ll be only 6 miles to the next water source tomorrow morning, hopefully early, cool ones.

This will also be my first night camping in a location with just me, so early bedtime it is! Interested to see what Warner springs is going to be like tomorrow.

Campsite for tonight!
