Day One

On the trail!! Got started from the monument at mile zero at 6:00 am. My parents and girlfriend Maddy all dropped me off, which made me feel very loved and supported (if slightly anxious by osmosis). It was a perfect day for it – foggy and cool in the early morning, just enough sun to make me glad I wrapped up hiking at 12:30. I cleared 15.4 miles in 6.5 hours, which was a little silly in retrospect.

The seasonal streams that are usually dry by this time of year are all in pretty good shape, so I’m feeling much better about some of the stretches without water that can really lengthen out if those have dried up.
