Day sixty three

What a day of highs and lows.

For starters, I spent the morning hiking with a friend in made yesterday – Adam. We hiked uphill yesterday at ridiculous speed to get over a pass, and though I let him get ahead on the downhill we ended up camping next to each other last night. I’ve been pretty lonely the last few days, and when Adam came up to chat while I was finishing packing up camp it was a such a huge morale boost that he wanted to hike with me while our paths still intersected. It’s funny how some human interaction can help you take your mindset and send it in a whole different (and positive) direction.

I didn’t realize until the end of the day, sadly, that in my excitement for company as I packed up I forgot my flip flops at camp.

Another high though – todays hiking was a gentle downhill slope for the vast majority of the day.

Doubling down on the highs – I only had to go about a half mile off the trail to get to Reds meadow resort, where I was able to get a cheeseburger, chocolate shake, and charge my electronics.

Sadly, it started to rain just as I got back on the trail. It wasn’t too heavy, but I did need to get my jacket and pack cover back out. Even if the rain itself doesn’t get to me, hiking in my jacket gets me inevitably sweaty.

I was planning to camp on the pre-ford side of a downed bridge, but when I arrived it sadly had a no camping side. One ford later I found an established campsite (with a bear locker for the extra food that didn’t fit in my bear bin) but I’ll have wet shoes tomorrow morning.

With my friend Adam!
