Day fifty five

Went up and over the highest point on the pct today! Forester pass, 13,200 feet.

I felt pretty crappy to start the day, despite a good night of sleep. I think it’s the after effects of my disjointed sleep the day before. But I had two whole cookies for breakfast to rally my morale and cracked on. For a 20 mile day, I actually felt pretty good.

The only big knock on today was that I was rained on, twice. There were some baby sprinkles throughout the day, but in earnest it came down 10 mins after I crested at forester pass and 5 minutes before I got to my campsite. Good news is, my new rain jacket works well as a rain jacket in addition to its more frequent use as my pillow. The pack cover did great too. Now I’m huddled up in my tent hoping that my two stakes and two rocks I used to stretch out the rainfly are gonna do the trick as it’s coming down harder than it has all day and I can hear some pretty serious thunder.

The views today though, oh man. Pictures can’t do it justice, there’s just nothing quite like hiking and as you’re going, trying to make your miles, being able to look up and see one of one hundred views that day that you wish you could have hours to sit and appreciate. If I ever win the lottery, the remote cabin I’m buying to go off the grid must have mountain views.
