Day twenty five

Back on the trail! I did about 9.5 miles in four hours, trying to take it easier. Shin hurt off and on, but definitively less than two days ago. It’s 8.5 miles to the cajon pass mcdonalds tomorrow, so I’ll be able to have a nice slow morning and lunch there to get out of the heat.

The tricky part now is going to be reeling myself in when I want to keep pushing. If I’ve got the time, I’m going to want to do the miles. With a late start at the southern border, I don’t have much wiggle room if I want to do every mile between here and Canada. I’m trying to tell myself to not worry about that, that there will be issues up ahead that cause me to skip sections of the trail, certainly some in the form of fires. But I have a hard time letting go of the dream of doing the whole thing. While the thinking part of my brain has often been the loser in internal struggles like this, I’m pretty sure I can keep myself on track. After all, what good is doing 20 mile days for one week if it keeps me off the trail for a whole month when I aggravate an injury?

Slow and steady. Just gotta let the legs get a little better tomorrow and the next day and the next.

I didn’t think I had worn my old shoes down this much until I got the side by side, yowza.
Silverwood lake that I fully went past today
I’ve come to know ca 138 quite well over the past few days. Thanks to maddy for all the driving on the day hikes 🙏
Nice to get back to views
