Day nineteen

Booked it pretty fast to get through 15 miles to my pickup point! Maddy grabbed me a few miles into a moderately sketchy dirt and gravel road to spend this evening and tomorrow zeroing in lake arrowhead. The terrain was suuuper easy which made getting 15 miles by noonish a piece of cake.

Gotta sort out a few things in town, mostly equipment. Need a new container of fuel and more food, but also a couple clothing items. Think I’m gonna do sun gloves since it’s just not convenient to reapply sun screen multiple times a day just for my hands since those are really my only exposed skin. I also need new pants – these were slipping a bit when I first got them, but now that I’m losing weight they’ve become seriously annoying to keep pulling up.

Excited to let my body rest and heal, one zero day every 200 miles seems well earned.

First Joshua tree on the route!
There’s a 100 mile race around big bear lake this weekend, and the pct makes up a decent amount of the route!
Two hikers from Germany I’ve camped with the last few nights and befriended – a son and mom pair. They were headed into big bear too and maddy had space to give them a ride! Woulda been a multiple mile walk and then a tough hitch so they were thrilled.
