Day fifteen

The easiest fifteen miles I’ve ever done! The grade was mostly pretty gentle, was done by 3pm. It was hot as hell in the desert though when I got down here – I probably sweated out as much during the 3 hours waiting for the sun to go down behind the mountains as I did the 7.5 hours of hiking.

Was a little light on water as the seasonal creek I hoped to use wasn’t as robust as I’d hoped. Maybe I would’ve gone for it if not for the decent sized tadpoles whose home I couldn’t bear to shrink (or stomach the thought of accidentally sucking one into my bottle as I filled it).

Going to cross under I-10 tomorrow. Have been a little gun shy about dry camping after how much water I’ve been guzzling lately, which is why I didn’t push further today despite feeling really good. Going to do 15 tomorrow, I expect it will be hard to extend again with mission creek washed out.

Also it’s come to my attention that if you view these posts in a web browser the photos may all be in black and white! I promise it’s not on purpose and I’m not trying to be artsy, it’s something with the platform. I’m working on moving the blog to another url which, amongst other benefits, will solve that issue. Keep an eye out for that change, likely in the next week! In the mean time, if you ~subscribe~ to the blog to get emails, I hear those come with color photos!

Hit the 200 mile mark today! Wild to think I’ve come so far and still haven’t yet gone 10% of the way.
A balloon I found and the stream I found it in – toss out your balloons responsibly folks!
