Pretty chill day! Had just the right amount of water from my dry camp to the next source, and kept a nice pace walking. Despite 9-10 hours of sleep last night, still got a good doze off under the shade of an oak tree for about an hour and a half. I’ve been enjoying how an audiobook helps the miles fly by, but want to make sure I’m only using that for the boring miles lol there were a couple spots today with nice views I had to focus on appreciating.
Fully charged up at the Warner springs community resource center and pushed on another few miles to make it 17 for the day. Looks like I have a few gaps of 10+ mile water carries coming up, curious to see how my pace leads me to stay at those vs dry camp a few miles beyond. Even with my body hurting, it’s tough to stop walking for the day at 2 or 3 pm.
Speaking of which, really starting to feel it now in my legs. Both Achilles have been a bit sore, calves a little strained. Knees hurt a bit on my zero day after the bid descent into Julian, which are my biggest fear as there a lingering high school running injury, but they haven’t hurt today.
I’ve never been one to get blisters, but I think I have four now? Five? Who can count. Going to Leukotape them all fresh tomorrow morning – can be a bit tricky as some are between toes. Considering getting sock liners in idyllwild that go over toes individually, I’ll see how my feet feel at that point. All pretty minor so far, but if I keep up at 17+ mile pace i reeeeally want them to start healing rather than multiplying.
Feeling very appreciative that I’ve got the opportunity to do something as radical and cool as hike the PCT. Even in the hot and less picturesque sections I get little thrills from time to time. Gonna try to keep holding on to that joy.
